Nearly an Island
Part of a series recording the floods at Cookham, Berkshire in 2014. Partially painted en plein air in water mixable oil.
Oil on canvas
This painting is part of a series about the floods in Cookham when the River Thames burst its banks in 2014. It was started 'en plein air'. I was standing on the causeway which was the only access to the village during the floods. I had just set up and started when I was asked to move by the police to let the traffic through. Once i had set up agian, the early morning mist was lifting and the light was already beginning to change. I found the canvas was too big and i was getting in the way so i couldn't stay there for long. Luckily i had managed to catch enough of the essence of the scene from life to continue working from photos and memory in the studio over several weeks.
